Bride & Groom Attire: Style Ideas & Fashion You Need To Know

by Admin Feb 26, 2020 at 05:33 pm WEDDING

Attire is an important aspect of any bride's/ groom's wedding planning process, and an Indian wedding is no different! The bride-to-be and groom-to-be need to start shopping before it's too late and you would need more than a couple of outfits since Indian weddings span at least a few days and include about half a dozen events.

While picking outfits, the first thing to consider is the color that you are going to wear - neither you want to be stuck wearing the same old greens and reds like the old days, nor do you want to turn up in colors that are inappropriate for an auspicious occasion.

Colors to avoid at an Indian Wedding

The colors that broadly fall into is a category is, Black and White. Brides & Grooms avoid wearing Black and White, as it's a symbol of mourning. Typically, shades of red are popular colors as they represent happiness and good luck to the married couple. More modern brides and grooms, though, want to stand out and have been choosing other colors like blue, tangerine, green, gold, and coral.

 BRIDE'S ATTIRE

 Haldi

It is an auspicious ceremony where the Haldi preparation involves adding turmeric powder, and coconut milk/oil/curd in the right proportions. It not only symbolizes fertility and prosperity, but turmeric also represents purity and spiritual connection with the earth. The Haldi ceremony marks the beginning of the wedding rituals and is one of the most important pre-wedding rituals after Tilak. It has been an age-old tradition for the bride and the groom to wear yellow colored outfits during the ceremony for two reasons. One, the color is considered to be auspicious and two, it serves the practical purpose of the turmeric stain not being too evident on the clothes.

For the bride and the ladies, our recommendation would be to pick shararas, lehengas or Anarkali suits in pink, peach or even fluorescent yellow and neon green.

Mehendi

The Mehendi ceremony is not that low-key event so it gives you an opportunity to step up your fashion game and test your fashion sense before the bigger events. In Indian weddings, a lot of emphases is given on customs and rituals and the same is reflected in the Mehndi ceremony before marriage. Mehendi ceremony has become such an integral part of the wedding ceremony that it cannot be imagined without it.

Since you would be getting Mehendi applied on your hands and feet, a crop top and a skirt or a simple lehenga-choli are the best options for the Mehendi ceremony. Remember that the Mehendi can get messy - so avoid very light colors and rich fabrics accordingly.

For the bride, mehndi outfit of dhoti, choli and a flowy jacket is something that’s edgy, modern and perfect for a daytime mehndi event. You can also try a multicolor floral choli paired with a solid silk skirt is as classic as a mehndi outfit gets! Put on some mehndi jewelry and you are set to rock your mehndi look like a total boss bride! Doesn’t Yuvika Choudhary look like an ethereal dream in her mehndi outfit? Love how she chose a knee-length lehenga instead of a floor-length one for ease of applying henna. Smart & stylish!

Sangeet

A typical Sangeet ceremony involves a lot of singing and dancing where the families of both the bride and the groom join hands to make the evening more interesting.  An event of this scale calls for some serious bling and glamour in your outfits, which can be achieved by way of rich colors and some spellbinding details. If you are someone who wishes to stay on the traditional side of things, a lehenga is a perfect option for you. Or an Anarkali is not only elegant and graceful but also a comfortable option when it comes to dressing up for your sangeet. A jumpsuit is a ready-to-wear western outfit, there are ethnic and traditional versions out there too. A touch of lace there, a hint of embellishment there, and you will be ready to party at your sangeet in an unconventional attire.

Cocktail Party

You can opt for a saree gown, a ready-to-wear gown that gives the appearance of a saree.  You can also wear any of these dhoti sarees for your cocktail party. It is a bold and stylish outfit that can help you get in the party mood and make you a trendsetter in the eyes of all. Make the most of this opportunity and flaunt your favorite short dress at the cocktail party. However, not everyone in your family might be comfortable with the idea of you wearing a short dress. If that is the case, then it is better to wear a medium-length dress and not displease any of your family members or guests.  While going for a short dress, just be mindful of your body type and make sure it suits you.

Wedding

Wedding Day has it's own charm!
Most communities prescribe a color and a dress code to brides when it comes to Indian wedding clothes for the pheras. Telugu weddings would mostly see the bride in an off-white saree with a rich multicolor border while Tamil brides are most likely to wear a specific shade of red. Up north, brides generally wear lehengas in red or pink whereas, in the east, Bengali brides wear Benarasi silk sarees in red, pink or off-white.
